Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

  • This is a loaded question I get all the time. While there are many avenues to get into voiceover, a great resource I recommend is https://iwanttobeavoiceactor.com/

  • I got my initial start in voiceover through courses offered with the VO Dojo, Actors Connection, and with The Great Audiobook Adventure. My career officially took off with audiobooks after being in the Penguin Random House Mentorship Program.

  • NO! Being a voice actor is more than pursuing a dream. It's a long game and can take years before you see any money coming your way. Keep your day job, and as you find yourself needing more time for VO because you're getting work, then you can go part time and eventually, full time. But, in essence, it can cake anyone at a minimum of 2-5 years to actually get their career off the ground. Don't quit that day job! Set aside extra money earned for acting classes and improv workshops.

  • While every voice actor is different and every vertical requires a different toolkit, voice acting is acting. I (and a lot of other established voice actors) will always recommend a coach, regular acting classes and workshops, and a basic knowledge of the field you want to pursue. (For example; don't pursue audiobooks if you don't listen to them!)

COMMERCIAL

  • I get my industry rates from here: https://globalvoiceacademy.com/gvaa-rate-guide-2/ However, if you're an indie production house or artist, reach out! I'd love to see how we can work together.

  • My non-broadcast rates start at $250 depending on the style of project you're looking for. Contact me for a quote.

  • I do! A directed session costs $250 per hour. Some projects require a 2-hour minimum.

  • I have Source Connect Standard, but can also use Zoom, Google Meet, a phone call, or any other method of communicating. I even have a Discord!

  • Doing a project on my own can take me anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, allowing me to do more work. When a directed session comes into play, more time is needed. Thus, an up-charge.

  • Absolutely! Though I don't recommend them for the entirety of an audiobook, all of my different services can benefit from a directed session.

VIDEO GAMES & ANIMATION

  • Having worked with Bob Bergen on character work, I'm confident that as long as my vocal range meets the basic standards of your intended character, I can do it. For example… If you're looking for a robust male street fighter with a guttural growl, you may need to find a different voice actor. However, if you want someone to voice a grumpy old gnome or a rough female warrior or a robotic AI voice, I can do those, and so many more!

  • I've always wanted to voice a character similar to Jinx! But besides that, no. I don't specialize per se.

  • I don't charge per character. Instead, I charge per hour. In some rare cases, I can go by lines. Contact me for an exact quote.

  • For most sessions, I typically do a 2 hour minimum. For vocally strenuous characters, however, I do a 2 hour maximum.

AUDIOBOOKS

  • If you want to work with ACX, it's just the PFH. I also do off-platform work for an additional 25PFH. When working with Spoken Realms (the VIP experience), things get spicy.

  • I offer three main tiers of rates. 300PFH Is the basic starting package, getting you a completed, Audible-ready audiobook!

My 400PFH brings along an award-winning engineer who can make your 'book baby' the audio quality of one of the big 5.

For a VIP experience, you get to work with me and Steven J. Cohen's Spoken Realms!

  • I also do the Royalty Share Plus model for 175PFH, as well as offer payment plans if you want to go with one of my PFH plans! Some authors with an incredible fan base raise funds through Kickstarter or Indiegogo.

  • I know that making an audiobook can be incredibly pricey. But, I'm super passionate about working with indie authors! Publishing your book yourself is already stressful enough. In a nutshell, yes. I do offer royalty share models for audiobooks. Let me know if this is the option you're interested in, and we'll work from there.

  • I will do any audiobook length, from Children's books to a heavy fantasy book. For smaller books, I just charge a single finished hour as a minimum fee.

  • I always read your book first. Then I work through highlighting (digitally, of course!) and notating specific beats and moments. This can take a little bit of time

  • I do! So far, I've only been narrating on TikTok, but I've had thousands of viewers listening in and have gained tons of followers for my authors. Plus, if you have a following, your excited readers can get a sneak peak into the action.

  • I need a digital form of your manuscript and a pronunciation guide for any words or names that you've invented or have multiple pronunciations online.

  • An audiobook can take anywhere from 2-5 weeks.

If we're going for a 300PFH, Royalty Share Plus, or Royalty Share, your book is going to take a little longer because I'm doing both the narrating and engineering.

At the 400PFH to VIP experience, however, you'll see your audiobook in as little as 2 weeks from the time we start working!
